Little dead rabbit

During the lockdown, poet Astrid Alben and designer Zigmunds Lapsa worked closely together on Little Dead Rabbit, a heartbreaking and fairytale-like poem about a rabbit that the poet saw lying on a roadside during a walk. Ostensibly a poem about dying and death, the corpse is also the starting point for a search for joy in life. Lapsa is known for his handmade designs and for this book he made a series of inventive, abstract die cuts that fit around and through the text. This creates an inescapable interplay between text and image. Little Dead Rabbit is intended for poetry readers, including young readers, but also readers fascinated by the two-play between image and word.
