Whelk Get up
Whelk Get up
Myrtle Leffring
A diptych in prose and poetry. The novel Wulk – subtitled Vallen – is about the cool lawyer Lea Noorderveen, who seems to have her affairs in order. A nice office in North Holland, a spacious apartment, a busy job. She seems to have come to terms with the breakup with her younger sister Kim. But then she receives a message from Kim that takes her back to that summer vacation when their mother disappeared twenty years ago in Normandy. It slowly becomes clear why the sisters have not seen each other all these years and what role their father, who left the family at the time, played in this. Memories and feelings that Lea has been able to suppress for a long time unstoppably surface. The poetry collection Wulk, with the subtitle Rising, is about this hidden world.
