The jump layer

Esther Jansma

In The jump layer, Esther Jansma sketches a kaleidoscopic picture of growing up in a family where art was considered more important than people. A passer-by asks the author for some clothes and food, and begins to tell the story: 'I grew up in a pirate ship.' It is a delicate network of poetry and prose, abuse and love, in which Jansma's earlier texts also resonate, shedding an unexpected light on her entire oeuvre. The jump layer sparkles and curses like stained glass through which lightning and sunlight shine. "The crux is love and we are the shards of it."
